 II. Learning unit: Valvular heart diseases and their treatment

Objectives and competencies

In this curriculum students may have the opportunity to learn anatomy function and diseases affecting heart valves . Topics such as diagnosis and basic treatment modalities of valvular heart diseases are discussed in multidisciplinary environment. Student may review topics anatomy of heart valves and mechanism of their function in the anatomic chapter. Pathological chapter reviews inflammatory disorders of the endo-, myo- and pericardium. Rheumatic fever, valvular heart defects, and pathogens of bacterial endocarditis are discussed in this chapter. The radiology chapter introduces imaging modalities and studies of the valvular hear disease and the role of echocardiography CAT scan and MRI in valvular heart diseases. Clinical relevancies cover diagnosis symptomatology and treatment modalities of the aortic stenosis, regurgitation, in an environment enriched with illustrations photos and tables.
