I./3.6.: Other imaging methods

Angiography might demonstrate bunch-like (fuzzy) hypervascularisation including irregular vessels and AV-shunts. This modality is applied apropos of an intervention. Hypovascularisation can be also observed. Amputated vessels can be also seen on angiographic image.

The radiologist can also apply interventional (palliative) therapy: percutaneous ethanol infiltration, chemoembolisation (TACE), radiofrequency ablation (RF), laser ablation.

Nuclear medicine imaging methods (isotope, colloid scintigraphy – 99mTc) demonstrate HCC as a storage defect if the lesion is large enough to be detected.

Imaging methods are unable to differentiate HCC and metastases surely! In case of focal hepatic lesions of indeterminate dignity US-guided biopsy must be performed.
