- Recommended investigational algorithm: ultrasound, CT and/or MRI.

- (US-guided) liver biopsy provides a definite diagnosis.

- Well vascularised HCC enhances the contrast agent in early arterial phase, becomes isodense later in portal venous phase, and mainly washes out in venous phase.

- Uptake of T2 type contrast agent (SPIO) depends on the differentiation grade of HCC. There are no or a few Kupffer cells in the HCC.

- Causes of THAD/THID phenomenon are multiple. To understand and detect them is important in the respect of complex diagnostics.
