II. Lerneinheit: Krankheiten der Herzklappen und ihre Behandlung

Ziele und Kompetenzen

Students have opportunity to learn important details of the anatomy function and diseases of heart valves. Diagnosis and basic treatment modalities of various valvular heart diseases are discussed in multidisciplinary approach. The anatomical chapter provides detailed description of the anatomic structure of heart valves and their mechanism. The pathological chapter reviews inflammatory disorders of the endo-, myo- and pericardium. Rheumatic fever, valvular heart defects, and pathogens of bacterial endocarditis are discussed in this chapter as well. The radiological chapter introduces imaging modalities and studies of the valvular heart disease and the role of echocardiography CAT scan and MRI in valvular heart diseases. Clinical relevancies include diagnosis symptomatology and descriptions of treatment modalities of aortic stenosis and regurgitation in multimedia enhanced environment with illustrations photos and tables.
