Chapter VII/1: Structures on the base of the brain; VII/1.1: Introduction
VII. Learning unit: Meningioma
Objectives and competencies
This syllabus introduces clinico-pathological relevancies cerebral meningiomas in multidisciplinary approach. The anatomical chapter describes general structure of the cranial base the cranial nerves and blood supply of the brain. The pathological chapter introduces general characteristics of meningiomas and meningothelial cells, their typical locations, hormonal effects, cytogenetic and molecular genetic background, macroscopic features and histopathology. The radiological chapter introduces general radiological characteristics of meningiomas on CT and MR imaging while the clinical chapter introduces epidemiology, etiology, symptomatology, clinical course, non-imaging diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment modalities in multimedia enhanced environment with illustrations photos and tables.

VII/1.1: Introduction
In contrast with the relatively even convexity, if we look at the brain from its lower surface we see a very segmented structure with picturesque relief, which follows the morphology of the bony-dural cranial basis. The base of the brain more or less corresponds with the ’negative’ of the cranial base.
