III./3.4.: Magnetic resonance imaging – MR

MR examination can be very well applied in the diagnostics, staging and follow-up of GIST due to its good tissue dfferentiating ability especially after contrast administration. Solid parts of the tumor show moderate, low signal intersity on T1, high signal intensity on T2 weighted sequences. Following contrast administration the solid (enhancing) and necrotic (non enhancing) parts can be well differentiated from each other, thus the viable part of tumor can be detected. Possible old and recent intratumoral bleedings can be well detected by MR (non acute bleedings can not be imaged by CT).
