IV./3.2.: Transvaginal ultrasound examination – US (TVUS)

US is always the first choice imaging diagnostic method. On the course of the menstrual cycle directly after menstruation, the uterine mucosa is detectable as a highly hyperechogeneous line. It thickens in the proliferative phase and becomes isoechogeneous. It consists of multilayer, echogeneous layers before ovulation: a hyperechogeneous line runs in the center, which is delimited by a hypoechogeneous layer internally, and an echogeneous layer from outside (stromal edema). This layer - collectively – reaches appr. 1 cm in a normal, reproductive case. 2 days after the ovulation this zonal distribution disappears already. In the proliferative stage the thickness of mucosa grows further (until 1.5 cm), becomes homogeneous and hyperechogeneous. Directly before the menstruation tiny, hypoechogeneous cysts develop inside.
