IV./3.3.: Magnetic resonance examinationMR

Whilst US has a detecting role, MRI has a problem solving task in the imaging of uterus/pelvis (good tissue contrast is provided). In reproductive age, zonal distribution according to the cyclic changes are examined by T2-weighting. 3 zones are visible in preovulatory phase: endometrium, junctional zone and the myometrium. In the meantime of the secretory phase, the endometrium and the myometrium widens, and the signal of the myometrium increases, too (increased fluid content). The thickness of the junctional zone decreases. The body of the uterus becomes smaller during the menstruation. The internal surface has an irregular thickness. Menstrual blood is visible in the cavity of uterus (fresh: signal free on T2).
