Chapter III./1.: Large gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in the stomach

III. Learning unit: Large gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in the stomach

Objectives and Competencies

The curriculum covers clinico-pathological implications of GIST in multidisciplinary environment. The anatomic chapter describes functional anatomy of the stomach, blood supply, innervation, the histology of the gastric wall. The pathology chapter describes frequent location of GIST, appearance, macroscopic and microscopic features, immune reactivity, molecular genetic background, the main groups of the disease, evaluation difficulties of tumor dignity. Radiologic chapter introduces imaging modalities used to diagnose GIST as well as radiological appearance of GIST on ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET, and angiography as well as imaging modalities used to evaluate treatment efficacy morphological alterations of diverticulosis, such as X-ray, ultrasound and CT. The clinical chapter allows student to study epidemiology, clinical course, symptomatology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment option in an environment enriched with illustrations photos and tables.
